Default Which Size Treble For Which Size Fly

I bought some salmon flies which arrived today ..some are tubes and now I need to match trebles to them .Is there a rule of thumb/chart as to the size of treble to use .The tubes are sized as .50" ( if that isn't a contradiction in terms ) or 1/2" if you prefer .

It's hard to tell from website images what the hook size actually is .

I also have some old tube flies which I have had lying about for years which don't have any rubber tube at the rear and I'm guessing this wasn't used then ..Is it a definite benefit to use a piece of tubing?
