I wonder how the general public would react if they were to be shown the contents of the ' Dead Sock ' in the cages and were subject to the aroma of decomposed fish flesh..

What is ''the 'Dead Sock'", ghilliejohn? I've not heard that expression before.

No doubt I've smelled it, though .....

The cages are square in design towards the bottom of the net the four sides slope inward toward the middle of the net...There there is an opening to which is attached a 'sock' of netting..
Dead fish sink to the bottom of the cage and roll down the sloping sides into the 'sock' where the decomposing / carcasses are retained..
The bottom of the net [on one side of the cage ] is winched up and the dead scooped from the 'sock' with a net.
