Merthyr Tydfil angling association have a stretch on the Usk, cant see the price of tickets though on their website, annual membership is around £50.00 PA plus a joining fee ( payable for 2 seasons)

The Taff does get a salmon run, and tickets can be bought from Gary Evans. Come a bit further west and the rivers Afan, Neath and Ogmore fall have angling clubs, or if you live in Cardiff you can be on the banks of the Tywi within 1hr and 10 minutes. All of theses rivers have angling clubs with day tickets available.

You should find the Wye to be within striking distance of Cardiff - once the best salmon river in England & Wales - some forcast 2012 will be the best season for a long time, and the run starts early. The Wye Usk Foundation issue day tickets, below Monmouth fishes best. Try: The Wye and Usk Foundation - Upper Bigsweir C&R is of course mandatory on the Wye for 2012.

Thank you for the replies guys, it's nice to know that there are a few people out there will to help and advise, I think this summer I'll have a crack at a salmon although it will be on a single handed rod, I hope to find a fishing buddy to go and explore these places some day, but until then it will be cold fishing just turn up and have a crack and hopefully get lucky at some point, I am looking forward to giving it a go some point this coming season, thanks again for some of the replies hopefully may bump into you guys along the way

I stand corrected, or more to the point the wheels of power turn rather slower than we were led to believe.
Wasn't there talk of compulsory C&R for the Wye 2010 season also? This also never materialised did it?

Thank you for all the replies, I thought the river taff had no salmon running it the way gary evans talks about it, I joined the radyr weir part a few years ago and fished it 4 times but due to work had no more time to fish it and I was told no salmon or sea trout run it any more hope they do
