Given you are in Dumbarton, got to assume two things.

1. You mean The Leven that runs out of lomond at balloch.
2. You aint either fished it for a long time, or lived there a long time!

If is said Leven, then yes, it is good for salmon!
is sometimes stuffed with them below the barge at Balloch!

I am only 13 so i wouldnt know but my dad has fished the river since he was about 7 and i have heard alot of stories aboot the fish this river used to give.

He said that people used to take care of the river not sit at its banks every saturdy and sunday drinking and setting fires.

Another thing is that sll these people got the river a bad name by harrasing the locals.

I really wish i could have fished it before all of this happened

Yes agreed, shame though, i had some great days and nights on the leven way back, (best fly then was always teal blue and silver for the sea-trout) i recall the bailiffs had to escort shoals of half a mile long up the river, the leven gave me my first Salmon, actually 2 in 20 minutes, the few of us who fished it then seen it's decline, and we moved to the River Forth in Stirling, where we would regularly catch Salmon of 16lb and 20lb i'm afraid even the Forth suffered a decline though.

We then headed for pastures further afield, fishing trips to the River Moy in Ireland, where salmon runs where plentiful (not sure about now) Moy fish were normally smaller in size 5 or 6lb being about average size, i recall speaking to a local angler on the Moy, who couldn't believe we were regularly catching fish of 20lb in Scotland, he told me if he thought there was a 20lb fish in a pool, he'd drink all the water out of the pool to get it.

Good luck with your salmon sport on the leven, young man, i hope you can find it as good as your dad has, or indeed i have.

Best regards
Jim

Is the wrong way round,It was the locals that got the river a bad name by harrasing visiting anglers.constantly poaching it.and taking carrier bags of ''Whitefish'' in the spring, that were in reality seatrout/salmon smolts.
