Default River ericht, aberbrothie

Hi guys

Has anyone fished this stretch before for salmon? I have a day fishing here mid march and was wondering what to expect and possible prospects.

Cheers
Paul

Yes, there will be some fish around then, April is a better month though. I took a couple of chaps there last year, mid March, hit it just right on the clearing water but the fish were waving as they went straight through. One of the chaps did manage to land a spanking 8 pounder, his second ever salmon, and from a steep bank overlooking the deepest stretch on that beat, managed to let his fish go around a bush. He had phoned me up river to say he was into a fish, but by the time I got down with the net he had already broken the top section of his rod, and had 'gone in'* around the bush and managed to land the fish, and scramble back out of the river. I got there to find him standing soaked from head to toe.

*He claims he fell in. I think there was no way he was losing that fish and went in.

Chapmans, at the top of the beat, is productive, as are Katy Swanson's Bridge, downstream to the electricity pylon, and don't forget to cross the bridge and work your way down the other side to fish the very last pool, can't remember it's name but it's one of the finest looking pools you could wish for. Tight lines.

Yes I have fished it and it is a nice wee bit of water if you hit it right.
I seen the pics from that day John and that was a proper over the head swim that Terry had. LOL

Tightlines.

Right in at the deep straight at the bottom of the farm.

A word of warning, if it's raining heavily and the Ericht is rising, get your car over the brow of the grass verge as soon as possible (if you park down through the farm you'll see what I mean). We arrived one morning to find it just fishable but rising really quickly. It went up 4 feet in a couple of hours and where the car is parked is at bank level. That was a hairy moment getting back to the car to find the water coming around it.

I thought Aberbothrie was on the Isla.

It's the Grange of Aberbothrie which does indeed sit on the Isla, right on the meetings with the Ericht. The ticket allows you to fish on the last mile of the Ericht and a short stretch of the Isla upstream from the meetings.

Yes, it is a nice bit of water, I have had a few fish of it.
Do not forget to fish the Isla part as well especially the bit just past the meetings of Isla/Ericht.
It is good value for money no doubt about that it was £20 the last time I fished 2 season's ago.
Good luck and tight lines.
Bobby
