Default For the future of fishing in Northern Ireland and UK as a whole

hi all,

some of you may be aware but am sure most of you aren't aware of the current situation of the coast of Ireland.

Below is a summary by Danny Hunter at foylefishing.com
Quote:
There is commercial nets operating of the coast of Antrim ok !! That's Northern Ireland by the way to those that live here in Tyrone !!......Now Some have been there for years and years and some have just been given the green light from DCAL to put nearly 2 miles of netting each along the path of wild atlantic salmon destained for all rivers in the UK and Ireland ... OK SO FAR !!! good

[ I will paragraph all this to make it easy for you ok .]

These nets are picking off salmon heading for the foyle system , thats why i'm personally concerned " right "

These nets are constantly fishing 8 months of the year and the bag nets themselves rarely come off during this period "ok

And Even though some have been paid off over the past few years with 100's of thousands of pounds compensation given to them....the same licence holders then had a reserve net licence hanging back and are now back on the scene laughing all the way to the Halifax ...." OK SO FAR "

And as this is all happening ," DCAL" ....DEPARTMENT of CULTURE , ARTS and LEASURE for northern Ireland [ lol] are issuing more commercial licence's to more or less the same companies with 99% of the anglers of northern ireland never even knowing anything about all this until this was all leaked out " OK AGAIN.

NOW !! Irrespective of how many salmon these commercial nets-men claim they are catching , It only takes one for the complete fleet of Icelandic commercial boats to go back on again to further damage our returning wild salmon and the ever decreasing grilse run .

They have now been informed about Irelands Deception and are being fought back constantly with promises and favors which is allowing us time to get our message out to ministers to help save our countries own native salmon........................This involves every single angler in the British Isles which includes Ireland and everyone needs to stand together even though you and i or anyone else have different opinions internally ...[ that can be picked up another day ]
So there you have it, salmon destined for rivers that are either closed completely, on a C+R basis or just plain dead are been lifted at sea by netsmen who have permission from the government body in charge. (Who I might add is well aware of the declining numbers of salmon returning to our rivers) yet nothing is done.

Please add your support to this petition as every name counts, and as stated before, it affects us all, UK/Ireland wide.

Thanks for your time
