Default Question: Daiwa UK (Scotland) Thistle?

Interested in the origins of Daiwa salmon rods made in Scotland. Done a little reseach but nothing comes up. Seems to me the "thistle" logo used by Alex Martin and later by Daiwa should be related. Does anyone know if there is a connection? Been a Daiwa salmon rod enthusiast for many years and own many of them...just hoping to learn where it all came from. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Judging by the lack of replies, aint many in the "know"
many years ago, used to be made in Scotland, hence the thistle badge, and "made in scotland" stamp underneath.
not sure how many are now though.

Daiwa are renowned locally and far afield for great customer service. I once handed in a broken rod for inspection, no warranty, no proof of purchase. Went back down a couple of days later and was given a new top section and my cork handle had all been cleaned up. And they never charged.

Thanks for the replies.

Now I understand the "Thistle" connection...it's not Daiwa and it's not Alex Martin...it's Scotland (forgive me, I'm in the US and failed to study Scot history prior to this post)

My hope was to learn of the origins of Daiwa UK (Scotland). Is it within the umbrella of the asian Daiwa corp...if so did they buyout a local manufacturer?...and who were the gents building 2 handed salmon fly rods in the 1980's and 90's (early carbon fiber era). They made "GREAT RODS" and I'd like to know who they were. Those who designed the tapers and built the rods were exceptionally GOOD at their trade.

GuyFromLaw, please ask the lassies if they can find out more about this. I'm very interested in who these gent's were.

I fish them regularly for steelhead in the pacific northwest of the USA. Fished many 2 handers and few, if any, have better tapers and more durable craftmanship to this day.

I think it was Milbro (millard brothers) of Wishaw that they took over. And one of the designers at that time was World casting Champion, Peter Anderson of Kirkintilloch.with David Bell, coming in just after.Peter is still designing rods ,but not for Daiwa.
