Default Spinning Outfit Advice

Looking to invest in a budget spinning outfit for some salmon fishing next year.
I've had a look around on Ebay and was thinking about a Diawa Proteus 10 foot rod coupled with an Abu cardinal 105 spinning reel.
Just wondered if it's a suitable outfit for the occasional salmon spinning trip?

Rod...
DAIWA PROTEUS SPINNING ROD 10' 2PC MED/HEAVY PRS1002MHS | eBay

Reel...
Abu cardinal 105 freespool reel + s spool & line | eBay

Looks adequate gear for the job, for medium to large rivers, if i have to spin (which is rarely), will use a similar type of reel, 6000 baitrunner and 9' daiwa 80g casting weight.
have landed fish up to 25lbs on said gear.
some folks like longer rods, but i cannot see the point, unless worming, then longer rod helps "bounce" the bait through lies, but spinning is basically cranking the handle and pulling the lure back!

I agree on the rod............ Looks fine and has plenty of casting scope for most situations.

With regards the reel.... I would opt for a Shimano 5000 or 6000 with a balanced handle.

Mike.

The rod will do, don,t bother with the freespool type reels, get something a tad lighter with a good drag, either rear or front, and an aluminium spool, especially if your considering braid, you don,t need a big reel, larger size= more weight!

Think I'll stick with the rod and go for a Shimano reel instead of the Abu.

Thanks for the advice.

The rod is really important I would advise one with enough power to chuck out a decent bait but sensitivity in the tip so you can feel the lure (eg Mepps or Rapala) working. Also I advise braid - for the same diameter you get twice the breaking strain - I now spin with 30lb braid. You have to have your clutch set but you lose less lures!

Ok thanks for the info guys.
I've decided to go for the Proteus rod and Shimano reel. I'll load braid on the reel as well.

Cheers
