Default Salmon Fishing on Sat. 5/11/2011 near Edinburgh

Hi,

I am a student at the University of Edinburgh.

After today's statistic exam I feel the urgent need to wet a line for salmon.

Do you have any recommendations for me? It would be very nice to have a real chance to actually hook a salmon? And if the price is scottish my wallet would smile...

Many thanks for your recommendations.

TL,

Frank

I have a son there too - yet no matter what I say about the sport - he looks at me as if I'm stark raving mad.

Peebles on Tweed is not far away (Bus) - but you are looking at an expenisve time of the year. Go in Spetember next year for a bargain!

Link to available beats posted on fish pal for Saturday on tweed.

FishPal - Scotland - Tweed - Rods Month

Browse around site for Fri/mon as well.
Saturday tends to be the busiest day.
Might just be some of the upper beats have mid week days at reasonable cost next week.

Thank you very much for your recommendations!

What do you think about these beats:
FishPal - Scotland - Annan - Upper Annandale - Home
FishPal - Scotland - Annan - Royal Four Towns - Home
FishPal - Scotland - Tweed - Horsbrugh - Home
FishPal - Scotland - Tweed - Middle Ettrick - Home
FishPal - Scotland - Nith - Upper Nithsdale Angling Club - Home
FishPal - Scotland - Nith - Dumfries Burgh Waters - Home
FishPal - Scotland - Galloway - Dalbeattie AA - Home

Which of the beats would you recommend?

As I am not a Scot I don't know anything about the fishing in Scotland or salmon fishing. However I do know how to fly fish and caught many other species in many different situations (Danube salmon, steelhead, pacific salmon, carp, pike, sterlet, barbel and many more).
Is Fishpal the only possibility to get to licences?

@Colin: It's my first and only year in Edinburgh, as I am doing a Masters. So I don't know if I will be able to fish here in next September and I have to get out now, as I was studying for the last two months...

Sorry for my stupid questions and many thanks to those of you who are helping me.

TL,
Frank

The Tweed beats will have more fish in them! however Nith will have some serious big silver fish traveling through in november, annan has too, but not so many, and is a long way to Urr on the off chance however!
My choice in order of preference would be Tweed, Nith, Annan, then Urr.
Will be on Nith myself for many days in November, with only one or two on Tweed, again due to cost/availability.

Hi guys,

just wanted to thank you for your help.

I booked the Ettrick (Tweed) today. Unfortunately the ghillie didn't call me until now, what would you do, if you were me?

I had to book a rental for tomorrow to get out. Really am a bit frightened of not being able to wet my shotting head.

Thanks again.

Frank

I booked this morning and called the office of Buccleuch Estates and the lady told me the ghillie would contact me. I have his number. I called him and wrote him a text after an hour or so.
I will drive down there and see what's going on.

Yes, I meant shooting head. Sorry.

Thanks again.
