Oh, the death sentence. Just when you think you know what your doing, it all starts going horribly wrong

Fly or spinning?

Well done though all the same. The smile says it all

The top man could be even greater if he considered the future of the sport and considered educating you about catch n release my friend.

I'm guessing, since you chapped the other fish, that this was another hen which bit the dust?

Great fishing for you, but you can't keep killing them. Especially the hens.

Dead fish don't spawn.

And if you did release the fish, or intend to release the fish, the top man should be teaching you not to hold them by the operculum (gill plate). A stray finger, the fish wriggles in your hand, and suddenly your fingers are forced in onto the gills. The gill lamellae are made of very thin fibrous tissue which facilitates the oxygen exchange from the water. These are easily damaged and the fish would bleed to death, even after you watch it swim off thinking it was fine.

I have a funny feeling about this ''Bar of Silver'' could it be an early springer.as it is VERY clean for this time of year.and it looks dead.

As well as the kippers, there's fish just like that coming off the Clyde this week.
