Default 64lb salmon from Sweden

A few days ago Uwe Lehrer hooked and landed on fly a 64lb (29.2kg) salmon from the Indalsalven River near Bergeforsen. This is the same size as the current British record. It would have been a record for Sweden too which currently stands at 28.72Kg but for technical reasons it cannot be claimed.

The Indalsalven River has a big power plant near Bergeforsen and it is noted these days for salmon below.

This picture was shown a few forums and before evereyone starts the "that shouldn't have been killed" comments, it was killed as it was a hatchery fish and they didn't want it to interbreed with the main wild stock.

That particular river had a great run of wild fish years ago, and is slowly coming back, and they felt that all hatchery fish should be killed for that reason. You will notice that the adipose fin has been removed at the hatchery, hence the reason they knew quickly that it wasn't a wild fish.

Thats why it was killed in that condition.

hope this helps keep the blood pressure(s) down.

Presuming the technical problem to stop it being a record is the fact it was a hatchery fish?

I don't think that was the reason at all. Big fish for sure but förbudstid translates as "prohibition". The article also mentions a lack of proper measurements and witnessed weighing (if Google translate can be relied on that is).

The fish were taken during förbudstid and are not counted in the statistics. Därför följde inte Uwe Lehrer de stränga regler som gäller för att registrera ett svenskt rekord; vägning på krönt våg med vittnen, exakta foton och flera mätningar. Why did not Mr Lehrer the strict rules that apply to register a Swedish record, weighing the crested wave of witnesses, photos and more precise measurements.
