I had a fish on with a bright yellow flying C the other evening on the Tavy. I lost it though That was an upstream cast and retrieve back through a pocket after sweeping downstream all night with various things.

Use braid, fish upstream, hold the rod tip high and keep your flying c bouncing along the bottom you heathen.

Is that how you do it? 'twas the first time for me... oddly enough fishing down and across produced nothing then the first cast upstream was into a fish. I use braid with a mono tip - I suspect the tip needed to be a a bit tougher when I lost 2 flying Cs

From that statement alone you can tell that Humungus does not do a lot of spinning.

To be successful at spinning will take a number of years, as with any of the methods we anglers use to try and catch a fish.

Best method for the spoons and Rapalas is generally to cast across and let the current pull them round,
Same method can be used for the Cs also but I prefer to use them in the upstream method.
No matter how fast you retrieve a spinner, you will not be able to do it faster than a fish can swim. So don't be afraid to mix it up.
Be sure to cover all the water from a variety of directions, as one direction may well produce a response from a fish which has previously ignored your offering. You also need to vary the speed of retrieve.

Best of luck learning this method.

i recently spent some time on the Tweed with some experienced salmon fishermen. I was told to fish a flying c upstream, a rapala across, and a toby down and across...
