Default help with salmon please

the trout season on my local river has ended now but I still want to try for salmon and sea trout. my question is how do you target them without also attracting browns. I would lie to fish wets for the sea trout but am sure browns will take them. also can you use still water lures for salmon/sea trout. a guy I know that fishes the river aswell says he has had great success with red boobys when the water is coloured.

Gerry,The sea trout season is really finished.(I know I know. It's still legal to kill them .but they are full of eggs/milt) just fish Salmon flies and you will not catch many brownies.

well that's that cleared up then. what do you think of using the Stillwater lures for salmon? iv read that the most
important part is getting the right depth and speed and I think that some of the heavier lures could do the job quite well.

It's not like catching Salmon is easy.... I would stick with known salmon patterns for your bit of water Do you fish tube flies? Copper sinks like a sto.....errrr... I mean like metal.

Some of the stillwater lures will work as well as anything, but are the hooks upto the job? fly pattern is not the crucial factor, movement and depth are, the fly needs to be right in the fishes eye line or just above, most early and late season fish will be in the bottom foot of water, concentrate your efforts there, if your regularly touching bottom, your in the right zone, if not, your wasting most of your time, risk losing a fly or two, they are cheap compared to ticket costs, i always tie up flys a dozen at a time, so always have plenty of spares.
If in doubt, go dredging!
