I`ve never tried any of the shooting heads but for the amount of fishing I do and budget I`m sticking to ( honest dear, it was a bargain!) a full line would be the way to go.
out of preference I`d say a shortish head but having only used the hardy line I can`t really compare it to anything.

You may wish to 're-think your thinking.' Where do you fish, how do you fish, how wide is the water you fish, how deep is the water, how fast ..... etc., and etc.
In the Scandi contries and here in the PNW majority of us have gone to 'short head lines,' and for good reason. Depending upon the line (Skagit vs Scandi) you can cast a length of Bike Chain or sinking poly leader ... or a full on dry leader with the same 'head.' And the 'good guys' can put either out to 100 - 120 feet with a flick of a wrist. (I'm good, but not that good.)
Both RIO and Airflo (Steve Rajeff) have a huge number of their lines pared off with rods (US and off shore) for comparative purposes. You might want to take a look? The major 'down side' of the shorter heads is you have to 'strip in' the shooting line before each cast; but depending on what's on the end of your line, ..... not a bad thing unless it's colder than hell.
