Default Sea Trout Ballycastle Co.Antrim 12/01/08

i landed this one fishing the beach at ballycastle me and a couple of mates headed up to ballycastle beach fishing for flounder and dogfish just normal sea fishing when i landed 2 sea trout. the first was about 2lb and the second was a good 4lb i would say i was fishing with a 3/0 hook with sandeel on a pulley rig i was hopeing for a dogfish or something bigger but there you go 2 sea trout that were both put back to fight another day both me and my mates are Catch and release anglers i just thought it might intrest you.

Do you ever fish the Margy?? t'other half is from ballycastle so we do get back there an intend on spending more time there, keep looking for fishing in the area.

do you mean the the Margy River i am not a fly fisherman yet tho i have got my hands on a good book fishing for dummeys and do intend on fly fishing somewere this year. i was fishing the beach the river that runs on to it is the glenshesk river i think not sure tho i was takling to a river fisherman and he told me that the sea trout was probley on its run back to sea after spaning judgeing the size of the fish it maybe is the 2ed or 3rd time it has done this after leaving the river.

It's a lovely fish indeed.

I do mean the river margy, it would have been the margy mouth you'd have been fishing the glenshesk runs into the margy about 0.5 mile up. There is a very small stretch of fly only water that can be seen from the golf course, its looks very fishy and the local anglers have done alot with the water. I believe the salmon numbers have been dropping but the local club has been rearing quite a few for introduction. I'd love to tackle one of those sea trout though!

it's a very strong fish i would love to catch one on the fly i bet that would be great fun dont think i could cast a fly line 120+ yards tho

Cromie: need you help mate with flys and that we will arange a day to fish killylane when its open if you are up for it

Thats a very nice seatrout merv, well done, nice to see some catch and release anglers doing what they do best.
You should try giving it a go with the fly rod,8to9 weight with shooting head, great crack, and pleanty to be had around the coast of Ireland.

i cant pick what fish i catch in the sea what ever takes the bait is the fish i catch thats what i like about sea fishing you niver know what your going to get i put it on this forum becuse i thought it might be of intrest.
