Default shakespeare trion salmon rods

They are selling these off cheap now - does anyone use one and can recommend them? Can't find any trustworthy reviews (i.e not written by shakespeare PR dept) out in cyberspace.

I have never tried one but funnily enough someone told me last weekend that they had bought one of these (I think the 13 foot version) for his wife and she loved it. He said he had also tried it (he fishes with Sage and Hardy rods) and thought it an excellent rod and brilliant value for money.

As far as reviews go, can't see any for the Salmon rods, but these appear to be some customer comments on the trout rods (the first couple may be for the double handers?)

Pflueger Trion Fly Rods

Not much help I'm afraid but it's something...

Hi codyarrow

I see that you were thinking of buying the above rod.

If you did, what do you think about it?
What is the action on the rod like, is it a mid to tip fast action or what?

Is it any good for shooting heads or spey lines?
What one did you opt for?

I the rod fairly light, grams?

Sorry for the questions but I am thinking of buying one.
Thanks
Bobby

I don't know if anyone takes any notice of T & S rod tests but the March 2010 issue "Which Salmon Rod" said "it's not very pretty or subtle", "the first stripping ring is too close to the reel","It has a soft through action but is not progressive and doesn't recover its shape","it is not good and the handle is too long". Other than that it sounds just perfect!

I am new to salmon fishing and use a Trion 14ft, i find it ok to fish with ,but really could do with some casting lessons
My friend who works for Pure fishing ( Shakespeare ) uses the same rod, casts well with it and catches some nice fish. Including a sea liced 17lber from under my feet in the spring
He uses spey type lines with the rod.
So it is well capable of doing the job at a reasonable price

Got a 14ft version last week, gave it a go, certainly capable of doing everything I want, I,am a novice with a double hander, and from my first immpressions it will easily cope with my waters (medium sized), no worries about using a T400 heavy sinktip in spring flows, roll casting to the far bank with ease. Big rivers, long spey casts, I,ve no idea, but don,t see why not, might by another as a spare!
