Well ... I .. well we .. admit to the "over sexed" bit. PM actually gave me the clue. Apparently these were planted in some Russian rivers and a few strays.

Which is not unusual at all here in the PNW. Natures way of taking care of a major AH SHIP flood/what-ever wise where water flows/flooding/what ever could have a huge impact on spawning beds. Remember about reading about one 'electric tagged fish' that was tracked into three different river systems. All close together, but silly fish had to swim back to the Columbia River, find another, etc.

Oops, slightly slow typing this one up.

Starting with Joe Stalin, and carrying on for at least a decade, Russian scientists stocked forty-eight million juvenile pink and chum Pacific salmon, mostly from Sakhalin Island, along their north west and White Sea coasts.

They can turn up most years in the British Isles; the only one I ever saw was taken in the Menai Strait nets.

No Fred, they are most likely from the Canadian east coast rivers, where they have been introduced as well!

Its just been on our local news." pink salmon" both mature males have been caught at dryborough on the tweed within a week, the fear is that if there is any females there they could breed.
All anglers are being asked if caught ,to kill them not to release.

Makes an interesting thought to a thread on here at present about"Is it just me?" where all fish in the rivers are being asked to be returned and not killed.

Link please aenoon?

I'm not aware of any Canadian east coast populations; even if the failed introductions to Hudson Bay are included.
