Default Advice for the Lochy

Hi all,

I'm a very lucky man and have been invited to fish the River Lochy in the first week of September.

Thing is, i've only Salmon fished once before and i'm a bit clueless!

Would love to get my first Salmon and wondered if anyone had any advice & tips?

What flies should i be tying?

Thanks in advance.....

Chicken fish you are indeed an very lucky guy. The river is fishing extremely well at the moment with double the five year average.

I have fish it a few times and we now go up every Spring when there is not so many around, but are generally large springers that fight like Mike Tyson in a back lane. I was fortunate to get me a 18lber in May and I just love that river, its a fly fishermans paradise. Here is a salmon fishing forum that has a lot of pictures and excellent information that you could read up to whet your appetite on. If the link is dead, join up as it only takes a few minutes and your then let loose on excellet information not just on the Lochy but on many rivers etc.

Here is the Linky that should take you to the Lochy Posts: The Salmon Fishing Forum - Lochy

You also have a PM

You should tye up some cascades, ally shrimps in size 10 & 12s trebles or on the salar doubles in 11 & 13s you don't need big flies they are for the spring.
One fly i have done well with on the west coast rivers is a red shrimp fly, i like red in the late summer into autum.

RED SHRIMP
Hook 9,11,13 salar double
Tail Orange bucktail with a few strands of pearl mobile
Body opal mirage
Rib Silver wire
Hackle Bearded orange saddle
Wing Red artic fox.

Hope this will help you
