Default North American River Updates for Atlantic Salmon - from ASF

News from the Atlantic Salmon Federation

Read the ASF RIVERNOTES blog, with detailed reports of returning wild Atlantic salmon. The posting is based on new information that has come in this week. The numbers are exceptional in many cases, and read how the weather has been helping in the past seven days. Reports are from Maine and New Brunswick to Labrador, and Quebec to Newfoundland.

Default Re: North American River Updates for Atlantic Salmon - from ASF

Commercial netting stopped in 2003 ……………….. Record runs experienced in 2010.
I'm no genius but I know which reason I would pick below as to why this has happened. I think ASF is very modest in it’s following Statement.

It will be interesting to see what the scientific evidence will indicate as the reasons for the excellent large salmon runs this year. Are they due to the health of the food web off Newfoundland, Labrador and Greenland? Or do they owe their strength to a benefit derived from the Greenland Agreement between ASF, its partners and the Greenland fishermen bringing a moratorium on the commercial fishery there? Perhaps there has been less predation on migrating salmon.
