Where are you based, Cubby, how far do you want to travel and how many days fishing can you have?
Do you have you a ball-park budget figure to help folk advise? Salmon fishing prices can vary from under a tenner a day to several thousand for the week.

Also, do you already have the tackle for a big river or would spate rivers and lochs suit your gear more?

Sorry just to ask questions but I think the answers may help.

I organise trips on the Ettrick, Yarrow and Tweed. I couldnt think of a better introduction to salmon fishing than these three rivers, the Ettrick and Yarrow we can fish with single handed rods and short double handers for the Tweed. The summer fishing can be excellent and not expensive and being in the Scottish Borders we are not as far up as the Spey or Dee.
I would suggest a three day long weekend if that suits.....pm me or give me a ring on 01750 62320.....the cost would be between £300 and £500 depending on the date....including full board and lodging

I caught my first salmon on the Ettrick, as Mick's guest, back in 2005. If it's got water, the Ettrick is terrific fishing, and wild, and beautiful. The Tweed's not bad either.........

BTW, that first fish has cost me a fortune since then!

I think that if Mick's jolly is within your budget GO!
We've only spoken on the phone but his enthusiasm for the sport was memorable. I've two of his rods which are lovely things, so take enough dough to take one home with you.
Nice, easy trip from Barrhead, too.

If you ever want some sport with the kit you already have, try the Scottish west coast and islands. A 10 ft 7 wgt is just the job for spate river/loch fishing for grilse, and £10 - £20 a day will get you either on the Isle of Lewis, these days. You'd need more than a couple of days to make the trip worthwhile, though.
