Default Anyone caught a smolt?

It occurred to me the other day, that while ive caught a good few salmon, and countless salmon parr, I honestly cannot remember ever having caught a smolt? Obviously i don't fishfor them, but thought a few would come along... Are they so hell bent on going to sea that they don't get caught, or have you all caught a few???

I have caught a few in my time, but not many.as I'm not on the Salmon rivers I frequent at the time of year they are running.

You can't help catch them on my local river when they are running - usually the end of April through to the middle of May. You get great shoals of them gathering in the slack water waiting to return to the sea. Even when you're doing your best not to target them they still manage to impale themselves on the fly...

In my experience they tend to be caught as the light fails, but I have also only ever caught a handful.

Yes Browniebasher I used to accidently catch smolts on the Lower Test during Grannom hatches in March/April. All hours of the day and they would take both dries and nymphs.

I've caught loads of them on the Lune.
I've had about half a dozen this year. Usually at the end of the day when I'm just starting my seatrout sessions.

When I fished the Spey, on a regular basis, a few years ago the place was heaving with them in late April/ mid May.
