Talking Salmon in high coloured water

Looking for some advice on fly fishing high coloured water for salmon. Will they take a fly in high coloured water? And what's best fly selection for these conditions? Thanks.

Fish the edges and slack water, dark coloured flys work the better than the bright flies that I expected.

The fish will be in the easier water, saving their energy.

Spinner or worm would probably be the best choice in high coloured water but if the river is restricted to fly only then a large dark fly, tube or waddington, would be my choice.

The theory is that a dark fly gives a stronger silhouette in coloured water and that is what the salmon react to.

But remember the salmon don't read the books so if a dark fly doesn't work experiment

As previously suggested, garden fly is best.
However, on Tweed, when high and coloured, the templedog catches more than its fair share!

Copper - Comet Templedog

This pattern, and colour, being most prolific, fished deep into bankside, and drawn slowly back in high coloured water.
