Default Salmon Rod, Spey Casting, Rain

Three quick ones off the bat...

Any good 13ft dh salmon rods that break down into several pieces? I'm not liking the 3 or 4 peice rods I mostly see because they wont fit in the boot of my car and not easy to transport on foot either.

If I want a spey casting lesson is there anywhere you'd recommend I go, and for a days one to one tuition how much? £200?

Any rivers worth fishing at the moment for salmon or sea trout? All this bloody rain must have allowed some to get into the river systems? Or are levels you're seeing too high atm? I was thinking of trying Yorkshire Esk, Ribble, Lune, Wear, Border Esk, Eden or Cumbrian Derwent.

Since you mention the Eden, a couple of excellent instructors I can recommend are
Glyn Freeman Glyn Freeman AAPGAI fly fishing instructor fly casting tuition, lessons instruction
Clive Mitchelhill Clive Mitchelhill AAPGAI fly fishing instructor fly casting tuition, lessons instruction
On the Ribble, Jim Fearn Jim Fearn AAPGAI fly fishing instructor fly casting tuition, lessons instruction

I'm not saying there aren't other excellent instructors, simply that I am confident to recommend these guys

Andrew

PS a chat with either/all would be a good way of answering your "any river worth fishing" question

Hi John

I know it's not the 13ft that you mention but I have a six piece 15ft Fulling Mill World Class Salmon Traveller in very good condition. This rod was very highly rated in Trout and Salmon.

I would like £80 plus postage for it if is suitable.

Johnny

Have you had a look at Shakespeare's 'Expedition' travel rods?
Sure they do a larger circa 12/13/14ft version and having used one myself I can vouch for them being decent rods.
They break down into several bits which makes them roughly the size of a trout sized landing net once in the rod tube!
Amazing things they are for the price too, to be as good yet break into so many bits it can easily fit in your glove box nevermind your boot!

Have a look at the link if your not already fixed up:

The link above says "sold out" but when I Googled the rod I got several UK based hits. Example: Shakespeare Expedition Salmon Fly Rod -13ft 8-9# 6pc - SAVE £35

I have in my hands (so to speak) a new Maver 15ft 6 piece and Maver 13ft 6 piece. £89 and £79 respectively. I have been giving them a good try for a review and they are amazing quality and unbeatable performance for the money. They do a 14ft too. These rods are not soft, but crisp and strong.

They are not your Hardy or Sage but quite honestly - amazing.

I highly recommend them and I'm using nothing else at the moment. The convenience is just too good! They are totally excellent 'spare' rods you can leave in the car! And ideal for a starter rod without breaking the bank.

Fish&Fly have some available PM me if you want one!

Colin

Thanks for that Fredaevans!

I was at work so I didn't have much time and wasn't paying much attention to prices!
I didn't realise the Shakespeare ones were so cheap!
I was expecting £80-100 possibly more!
(I aquired the one i used from a friend)

As you said in your post, I think their available from more than just John Norris...
