Something a bit different
A long well directed line, skilfully mended so the fly swings enticingly over the lies in the pool, the swirl of silver, the feeling as the lines slips steadily away, a lift of the rod and the reassuring thump, thump of a salmon shaking its head and heading at full steam back to sea, the reel singing as line peels off, the bend in the rod, the taut line singing as the wind blows it, the reeling in steadily, letting the fish take line as it needs, the current giving the fish added power, the sight of a silver mauve fish just out from the rod tip, one or 2 more runs, reeling in more easily now, the line still tight, a bar of silver breaks the surface just down stream, the fish gently swung into the slack bank side current, a hand plunged into the icy water grabbing to tail the fish, the power of the fish transmitted through the tail, the rod dropped on the bank and the second arm gently under the belly of the fish the fly quickly removed from the grisly scissors of the fish, a quick photo, holding the fish head into the current, feeling the power slowly being replenished, a gentle flick of the tail, the grip of the hands lessened, a final powerful surge and the fish swims quickly back into the stream, disappearing to continue its journey...................
