£100.

The Z was a mid to tip action,X a tip action.The Z was .8 of an ounce heavier.better fittings on the Z.

Why do you need to know so badly ?

Flynnboy
If it's quite an in-depth answer you are looking for, it's not one i can readily supply, you likely want to read up on rod building, i already answered on the other post that Daiwa have classed the Lochmor-X as a fast action rod, and the Lochmor-Z is a progressive action rod.

Rod builders (in this case Daiwa) use tapers to achieve different actions of a rod, for instance a fast action rod/blank such as the Lochmor-X may bend in the upper last 3rd (33%) of the blank, or uppermost quarter (25%), which some would argue is a tip action rod and not the best type for doing roll casts for example, and believe it is better that the power comes from deeper down in the rods action.

However rod builders i'm led to believe, can also slow down or speed up the action of a rod by where they place guides on the rod and how many they choose to use on the rod build. So the action is basically achieved by how the rod is built.

The Lochmor-Z in this case would be many's weapon of choice for casting a team of flies as it should theoretically, being a progressive action rod, (middle to tip action), achieve more open loops while casting.

Wheras the Lochmor-X being fast action or tip action and being almost entirely stiff is theoretically a more powerful rod and should cast line further, as its made to generate more line speed during casting, and these are also reportedly better for landing big fish.

Best regards
Jim

The reason I am trying to get it clear is that I have found them both in a sale

The X is £50 and the Z is £100 so I'm wondering which one I should get

What will you be using the rod for ?

The Lochmor-Z 10ft #8 i would regard as a sea-trout rod.

You can get a Lochmor-Z 10ft #6 or #7 in the same model for around £65 if its reservoirs you are fishing.

Best regards
Jim

As with all rods i like to try before i buy, (and would advise you to also) and see what like the action is for casting with, i've already used an X so i would happily fish the Lochmor-X at £40 and get myself some other kit with the spare £60, you can get them for £40 from Anglers rendevous.

Anglers' Rendezvous - Daiwa Lochmor X

Best regards
Jim
