Default Recommendations needed for single hander

Hi guys

I have recently started fishing the Drowes (Ireland) and realise that my 13' B&W double-hander is just not necessary. I bought it for other, bigger, rivers.

Can anyone make some recommendations for a single hander with a line weight of around 8 - 10? What is the 'usual' line weight for a single hander ?

Any advice gratefully received.

Thanks

Flynnboy,

Sorry, I dont know the Drowes. However I fish a 10m wide river which is heavily overgrown for seatrout and salmon. My choice is a 9ft 6 6/7 weight rod with 7 and 8 weight lines. I use slightly heavier lines on this rod as short casts with heavy flies work better with heavier lines. 9ft 6 or 10ft rods would be perfect for this sort of fishing. Try contacting either Steve Parton or David Norwich both of whom I have had good dealings with.

I use a 10' 8# for single handed smallish rivers, seems to work well for me.

Sounds good guys. I have my eye on a Daiwa 10' #8 in a sale, might just go for it.

Thanks

10 foot 7 or 8 wt with a powerful progfessive action i get on great with the old loomis classic rods, you want something not too light in the tip but not over stiff for single handed speycasting. I also prefer two pice rods if i am going to be doing alot of speycastingnthe above rods are superb also the old orvis western 2 were good.
