Default leader set-up question

hi everyone
i'll be fishing a fast wide spate river at the weeknd and with all the recent rain, i guess it will be running fast and dirty.

I will be fishing a 9foot 9-10 weight rod with a 10#floating line, a 5 foot fast sinking tapered leader and 12pound breaking strain maxima.
Will be fishing the usual flies and some tubes.

What is a good length of tippet to use?

Is it best to use short tippet for sinking the fly fast and this will stop the river "kicking/rising" the fly back up?

(I don't have a sinking line yet so my floating line with poly leaders of varying sink rates is my only option just now.)

thanks in advance for your answers.
cheers
Rusty

I often fish with a short 1m tippet with heavy or bulky flies on a sinking line, 15lb maxima wouldn't be too heavy and will help the fly turnover.

thanks for the replies Chaps.

ah, Jim, once again you have given me great advice, thanks.

I've still not caught a salmon yet on the fly! I got my first sea trout on the fly last month so hopefully it won't be too long until I get a salmon.
man, I've tried so much to catch one! so many hours!!!!

Cheers
Rusty
