Default River Garry appeal

May be of interest, particularly if you've driven north on the A9 and seen what's left of the Garry.

A scandal. A whole river lost for the electricity which could be generated by 4 wind turbines.

A pretty discusting state of affairs!

Many rivers across the UK are being sucked dry by the water companies, and many smaller rivers have even dried up or been significanlty reduced in size. It's probably difficult to find any rivers that haven't affected!

In addition to our rivers being sucked dry they are also used as a toilet or dumping facility!

That's a pretty appalling situation up there and very relevant to my part of the world where an electricity generating tidal barrage for the Severn's being planned despite all reasonable objections on environmental grounds.
These green solutions to our problems with energy supplies pose some very difficult questions, at least those posed by the hydo scheme on the upper reaches of the Garry have a chance of being resolved, I'm not too optimistic about the Severn though.

A sad state of affairs, hopefully things now being done will improve the river to its former self.

So it now seems apparent that it isnt "Free" electricity after all.
Strengthens the case for Coal power stations!! (I may be biased as i work in one and would like to continue working there!)

Hydro was never free ,the environment always suffered , i have sat at the weir at struan(designed to prohibit the upward migration of salmon/seatrout)and watched fish constantly trying to mount the weir, and always being thrown back .i was disgusted.and every time i drive up the A9,I am astonished/disgusted by the spectre of a large river down to its bones . with miles of spawning beds dry .what kind of ecological violence is this.and how long will we let it continue.the SNP have made a good start.i am going to work with/on them.
