Default Removing epoxy/fly keeper ring

I recently left a rod in to get a fly keeper D ring put on it. Unfortunately they put one of those latch type keeper rings on and it is rubbish and will soon break anyway.

I've read about using a stanley knife to remove the epoxy/get to the whipping which you can then unravel. This was in relation to the eye whippings elsewhere on the rod. What should I do to remove the epoxy/whipping at the very butt of the rod?

I then plan to do it myself with an ordinary keeper ring. Where can I get one?

The reason I left it in to a shop is that I do not have a rotary drier but i gather modern epoxies don't take long to dry anyway.

Hi

Use a Stanley knife or exacto knife to slice the epoxy and thread on top of the portion whipped to the blank. Then if you can grab the closest loose thread and start unravelling....this will bring the epoxy with it.

Clean up the area very carefully with the blade and you're ready to go.

If you send me your address I'll send you a normal hook keeper. Or if you send me the butt section and pay for the postage back, I'll do it for you.

Cheers

Steve

Thanks Steve, appreciate it. I have to give it as a gift on Tuesday so I'll send it to you after that (providing my dad agrees that the ring needs to come off).

Pm an address and I'll get it off to you and sort you out with return postage. Thanks again.
