Default Glueing a reel seat

Hello - hoping for some advice.

The butt end of the reel seat of my cheap-but-brilliant Shakespeare Aerial travel rod has come unstuck - ie, the glue holding the plastic female part to the wooden male part has given up the ghost. What kind of glue should I use to stick it back together again? Also, as it seems a bit loose, would it be wise to whip some thread over the wooden part to increase the diameter ever so slightly?

Thanks in advance.

TH

araldite, this will gap fill also so no need for the whipping of thread.

Clean off as much of the old glue as you can and then araldite. If possible, not rapid as its more brittle than the original formula. No need to whip unless the gap is very big.

Thanks for the replies. I wasn't sure about Araldite's waterproof qualities, but I guess this means it's ok. Cheers.

Hi TH,
There's a two part epoxy available called Gorilla that expands slightly as it cures which will probably be what you need.
Contact David Norwich as I think he supplies it.
Cheers,
TC

For the real lockdown - mix a wee bit of emery dust into the araldite - you get a concretion effect - shouldn't ever move after !

BTW Araldite doesn't work on everything and if the plastics involved are wrong for it it may not bond onto the surface.

Should be fine on what you are trying to do

Best wishes

Steve P

Gorilla is a one-part urethane resin that is moisture activated. Excellent waterproof glue up to the reel seat job but may foam out of joints/gaps if over-applied
