Default Thinking about building a Legend Ultra

I never built a rod before.
Is it worth it to build a middle of the road rod?

As a beginner it will only save you money if you place no value on your time, especially taking into account the basics you need to buy, but it is fun/addictive and with a little patience you get exactly what you want.

If importing from the US shipping VAT tax and shipping will add up, check out supply options in UK and Europe too.

For the LU I'd speak to grommit for a factory build price first, and in that blank price range I'd look at CTS, dan craft, harrison and norwich options

I am in the USofA.
But what are the other blanks you say I should look at?
I asume they are upgrades to the middle of the road LU.
But I have been out testing rods and the St Croix Legend Ultra feels the nicest to me. I think I even like it over the new Sage Z.

Nothing beats testing! The LU is a nice rod and the choice and prices your side of the pond are pretty good.

You're telling me there are no manufactures over your way?
G Loomis, Sage, Winston, St Croix ... I know are US companies but you must have your own that don't come out of China.

UK made - norwich, harrison
NZ made - CTS
Dan craft is US (Oregon)

Google the US rodbuilding fora for more views and options relative to your action preferences and intended use, not so many builders on this forum nor much exposure to the choices you have available.

The other major UK brands eg hardy-greys, shakespeare manufacture offshore and don't sell blanks

Hi All

If you're in the UK and you need Dan Craft or CTS blanks just drop me a line.

Cheers

Steve
