Default Blanks on a budget

Hi All.
I was lucky enough to be given a set of lovely Blue guides from a fellow forumite yesterday, which has kickstarted me on the road to my first build. I spent most of lost night going bog eyed looking for reasonably priced blanks on the internet. Now i know i should by harrison or david norwich blanks or the like but I really dont want to make a hash of an expensive bit of kit like that (and I've just come off short time working!!!) so I was looking for something around the £50 - £60 mark - or cheaper obviously.
All I seem to be able to find are the tradition ii and rainforest ii blanks. While these seem to fit the bill I was just wondering what other options are available and from where, maybe ordering from overseas if necessary.

Any info greatly appreciated.

Rob

Rob, take a look a look at this web site. There's been a few recent 'rave reviews' on US based boards.

The other place to check out is Angler's Workshop (I've purchased from these fellows for many years.) Angler's Workshop - Fishing Rods, Reels, Rod Building and Fly Tying

Thanks for that chaps.
The blue 7/8wt on ebay is described as a fast action and the colour will go beautifully with the rings..................... I've placed a bid.

Harrison do ballista blanks which i ve built on and they arnt that expensive, you wont get a rod that breaks or dosnt do the job , but dont worry about ballsing things up, just take yer time, its not rocket science, you should be able to put a rod together for around £100-120 if you dont go for things like alconits and fancy real seatsmy rods have taken a hell of a beating and still do the job

Hi,

Looks like we're in about the same position. I've ordered a blank from Anglers Roost, just waiting for it to turn up. If you hang fire a bit, I can let you know what it's like.

You may like the Sevier Tigers Eye stuff (Google will find them). I've read lots of good stuff on these.

Cheers,
Chris

If it doesn't cost around £80 min then it's Chinese however branded and gotten to you !

' Don't Waste your Time Putting Gold Handles on a Plastic Coffin !' - as they say .

Don't forget you cannot turn a duff blank into a good one - no matter how great your finishing is - you're still handling a tarted up rotten old hooker !

The blank is the rod and if you don't finish it so prettily you still have the rod !

Cheap blanks - false economy - great for selling on to the unwary !!

Choose well
