Unhappy rod tip fractured/snapped ????

while fishing yesterday i found that my rod tip directly at the back of the tip eye had fractured , i have now heated the eye and removed the eye and the piece of fractured/snapped carbon it looks as though its snapped because of a clean edge half way through ,ive removed all the whipping behind the eye,i have only lost about 10mm of the end if that, and my question is which is a suitable glue to put it back on ??????????????

thanks in advance for any replies ..

Sorry to hear about your rod Bruce. Not tree trout was it ?
I am no rod builder, but I was told standard hot melt glue would do the trick.
No doubt a rod builder will put you right shortly.

no Steven it wasnt , i was looking down the rod and noticed my fly line seemed at a funny angle to the tip ring and on closer inspection i found the snap/fracture ,im just wondering if it has snapped under stress when casting as ive certainly not caught it on anything /snagged on back cast or anything not even caught rod tip on anything anywhere...........

and i dont have hot melt glue so would aquasure or black witch fix it in place, as i have both here along with araldite ????????

Hi Bruce,

It is pretty rare to have the blank break directly below where the tip guide tube ends. Just be careful when putting back on that old tip that it fits. The chaps at the factory might (I say "might") have ground the carbon down a touch to get the tip guide to fit if the tube was slightly undersize.

I have seen that a few times now when repairing rods. If you find it is very tight after cleaning the old glue out, or it won't go on at all when you try and re fit it. Likely that is what has been done.

David.

hi David , that is exactly where it broke, and as you say i think it had been ground down as the broken piece is very loose when inserted in to the ring, the tip ring fits snug to where its going now , and personally i think that has been the problem ..its been loose so to speak and the glue hasnt filled the cavity in the ring properly and i think its been having a hinging effect when putting the ring under strain casting leading to an eventual break.
