Default First build info

In the near future I am intending to start my first build hopefully based on Harrison blanks or similar.
I am looking for website/forum links and recommended books that will assist.
I have looked at forum posts over the last 12 months and drawn a blank.

Shad,
Take a look at my thread which takes you through from beginning to end warts and all.

Many thanks, is there any particular reason why you obtained your bits from the US rather than getting from the likes of Meadow Fisheries?

Shad, I used Meadow fishery for most of my sundries, very good selection and great service. Also Solway components have a good range of epoxies for finishing as well as cork rings and a range of threads. And Guide and blanks have a good range too.

The rod kit was a Christmas pressie from the wife,
My next rod will probably be a David Norwich blank.
Building my own rod wrapper at the moment which is taking a lot longer than I thought so will get that done first, anyway, it's time to fish now, not build rods for me.
You'll find all the rod builders here on the forum are superb offering sound advice based on years of knowledge, I had a brilliant time and am now fortunate to call them friends.
Cheers,
Phil.

Dear Gary ,

It'll take him about half an hour to learn whipping in his hands and after that he'll never need a twee wee machine - but the tiedown is the key - saves 2 minutes per ring - forever !

Best wishes

I agree never I use a rod wrapping device ether. I just hold the rod in the left hand over the knee, Hold and twist with the left and thread bobbin in the right hand. Its very quick accurate and why slow yourself down with unnecessary clutter. Keep it simple.
