Default DNA Fly Rod Conversion

Hi David

Just seen your set of video on Youtube.
The concept of the DNA Rod conversion is very interesting.
I hope many anglers take advantage of the concept.
How far in terms of rod length could this be taken? Thinking of long spider rods, which have not been available (Made in the Uk) for some time.
The possibility of using a light 10ft favourite rod and using the extra section.
Would I think be of interest also to the competition anglers.

This is it here if anyone has not seen it

Hi Gary,

Thanks for the comment. It was originally just a a bit of fun to see if it could be done after reading buzzerman's (Merv's) thread. No profit was made out of it. Buzzerman only paid for the carriage. Buzzerman posted an update on it here.
I think Merv will be doing a review for FFF once he fishes with it. I'll add some on stream footage myself to YouTube once the season gets underway to illustrate the diversity of the concept.

I think any 4 section rod up to 11ft could have a section fitted to lengthen the rod. The section does not have to be the length of the original sections, it can be shorter to make the finished 5 section version any length really. It is not a vastly expensive modification now the initial groundwork has been done. Tapers do not vary much between the main manufacturers rods. Despite claims of exclusive carbon blends -they all use very similar carbon material. If you know what you are about, it is not too diffucult to suss out the modulus of the carbon fibre used.

If required, the blank only can be supplied for home completion, that reduces the cost significantly. Matching up some of the unusual colourful metallic finishes we see on fly rods these days is what really adds to the cost.

Strange how tastes change..... I remember when mettalic finishes on rods equated to cheap and tacky, and were to be avoided at all costs...

Regards,

David.

Default review a cetainty

Gary

I'll certainly do a 'novice anglers' review/viewpoint. Looking forward to using it. And agree that it should appeal to the competition side, as well as people who need the extra length occasionally and cannot justify the whole cost of anoyther rod. It'll be interesting to test it's versitility as well.

It is nice to see that via the power of the forum - a 'novices' ideas can be brought to fruition. Thanks to David's skill for making it possible.

maybe more of us should post our ideas and see if we annot get good old british ingenuity and engineering to produce some more items that are useful to he angler.

Merv
