I'm hoping there are electrical experts here who may be able to help with this next query.
I have a 220v 3watt synchronous motor which drives my rod drier. It turns at 20RPM and I'm wondering if i fit a light dimmer switch inline to it, I'll be able to control the speed, is this possible and if it is, how do I do it?

No.

"Synchronous" comes from "at the same time" and these are phase locked to the supply frequency.

There are ways of varying the speeds of such motors, but if you have to ask the answer is no.

I thought it sounded to easy or others would already be doing it.
I've spoken to someone at work today who seems to think I need a DC motor that can be controlled.
