Default That aww c**p moment.

Stage one --select culm.
Stage two-- split in half.
Stage three-- knock out internodal dams.
Stage four--flame culm.
Stage five--split strips.
Stage six--treat nodes.
Stage seven--straighten strips.
Stage eight--rough plane strips.
Stage nine--intermediate planing of strips.
Stage ten--bind strips with cotton and heat temper.
Stage eleven--plane strips to final taper.
Stage twelve--Glue and bind strips.
Stage thirteen--Clean up and carefully sand sections.
Stage fourteen--cut to final length.
Stage fifteen--prepare sections for ferrule fitting.
Stage sixteen--break tip section.
Stage seventeen--weep. Why is there no smiley for crying?
Stage eighteen--Start again.

This would have been the tip of a lightly flamed 8' two piece.
I don't even know how it happened.
Back to the planing forms. Now where are those spare strips.

Sounds heartbreaking. How many hours would have gone in to getting to that stage?

For a professional, probably twenty to thirty.
For me, about sixty. (Sob,weep, sob)

Whilst I, too, doubt Simon's ability to utter those words, I've been faced on a few occasions with similar circumstances. My vocabulary is much better adapted for those moments, I'm afraid.

Better you found out now, than once you'd tried fishing the rod or given it to a friend. Look on the bright side!
