I was given a couple of cane rods last week.
One of the rods is a Edgar Sealy 11ft octofloat rod.
I always fancied messing about with one of these rods so i have now stripped the rod down to its bare blank.

I have a couple of questions.

Where can i get a set of traditional guides? (hopkins and Holloway)
Is it possible to get a Edgar sealy decal?
What is the ebst varnish to re coat the rod?
Whats the best way to replace the cork? (can i use a prefabricated cork or should I use individual chives?)

Any advice will be greatly appreciated

Youcould also use individual cork rings.

Ideally you should ream out the cork to match the rod taper. I use an old section of a rod wrapped with emery tape.

Yacht varnish should be suitable but there are experienced cane rod builders who can probably recommend something better.
