Default Help needed - graphite ferrule repair

Now that I am between builds and twiddling thumbs, I would like to repair a travel rod that is sat in my shed. It is a rod that I lend out to people who want to have a go at fly fishing and it appears that one of them has broke it and kept quiet.

Its a Shakespeare 8ft 6in 5/6wt, I bought it with the reel for about £25, so not worth replacing the section and the male part of an overslide ferrule has been broken off. There is still about 0.5 inch of overlap between the joints and I only noticed the breakage when the top section came off during casting.

Looking at the remaining joints, they appear to have a graphite insert in them that is missing in the broken section. Is it possible to get your hands on this plug? My thought is to taper the insert and build up to the original length with epoxy and rub down to fit.

Thanks in advance

Vince

Vince, this sounds unlikely to be feasible, and certainly not at proportionate effort. Can you post a close up, inserted and not?

For whatever reason, the forum comes up with a message of upload failed and I cannot get anything on. I've e-mailed you a picture showing the remaining insertion depth, the comparative loss of material and you can see the existing graphite plugs sticking out.

Like my rod build, its more of an academic exercise than a "must save". I though creating a plug ferrule with a morse taper would be a good exercise but wanted to use a similar material for the insert.
