Epoxy is the best stuff but it will make the filler darker than the cork handle to get around this add some white dry pigment.

I've tried epoxy to make up filler in the past, and found it too hard compared to the cork either side of the filled hole, so when you sand down the filled spots you end up with a high bump and a dip all round where the cork has been worn down faster than the filler. I expect it's less of a problem if you have lathe facilities for re-shaping after filling, but if (like me) you shape handles by hand it may be a problem.

I found PVA glue worked better than epoxy, but now I use the proprietory Cork-A-Fil from H&H which sands down easily without causing wear to the adjacent cork.

Pat you can just get a wine cork and sand it down, then add some PVA glue and make a paste, quite easy really.
I prefer a B&Q pine, water based wood filler, a small tub will last you for years.
I put a bit on a plate, then add a small amount of coffee powder to it and stir it in to get the colour you require, then use.
If as you say you are not bothered about it matching, then just use the wood filler.
Sands very easily and I have never had it come out.
