Default Cane rods.

Whilst I know this is not about building a rod, I would value your opinion please?

I see I can buy a cane carp rod for around £350 from the maker Agutters. Then you have the one from Barder ( THE ONE CHRIS YATES USES) for £1300. Is it that much better?

Do Norman Agutters have a good reputation?

Thanks.

People charge the prices to make a living, just like everything else.
The more expressive rods will have better fittings a very high quality finish and attention to detail, and yes a name to go with it.

Lesser priced rods are not necessarily functionally poor in comparison. Agutters are very nice rods if you only have that sort of money to spend it will do all you require of a rod of that type.

I don’t make cane Coarse fishing rods, but your very welcome to visit my site and ask any questions .PM me

Gary,

I feel you are trying to say to (your credit) reading between the lines, it's an infearier product at a lesser price??

I know Barder are expensive, but have a kind if cach'e that you pay for. I'm just seeking a nice cane carp rod. If you say the other is well made and good quailty, it would be good enough for me?

Thanks.

Barder has now entered the international arena, his fly rods being sold by WestSlopeFly for over $3k with a 2 year wait. They have the reputation as having one of the best finishes in the business.
Going slightly higher than Agutters and less than a Barder, you can go to Gary Marshall's site (Fine Cane Rods - Bamboo Fly Fishing Homepage) who will make a custom one for you to your specs at a very reasonable price. Unfortunately now, his order books are usually full and a build will take probably a year or more.

Regards,
Steve

Or try Tim Harris. Great rods, and no major waiting list that i'm aware of.

The weird thing about cane is than , imo, its in no way better than carbon.

But they would lay it down on a grassy bank, or against a tree, and it looks so ....right!
