Default Can you thin U-40 LS Supreme Rod Finish ?

Hi Guys

I have just bought some U-40 LS Supreme Rod Finish for my thread varnish which turns out to be 'High Build' which is not what I intended as I was warned against that on account of it being too thick. However, now I have it.... can you thin it ?

Not used it but just looked up the details and its epoxy based
So yes you can thin it with meths or acetone.

The other way is use 20/20 for the first coat and then just a light coat of
U- 40

Gary.

you can, but you don't need to. the high build just means you have to be a little more careful when you're putting it on to not use a big glob. Put on a drop, let it spread around (or use a spatula when the rod is in a rod turner) and let it go. Finish all of the guides and go back to the beginning to make sure you don't have any hanging blobs or footballs. If you do, just touch them with the spatula and let it run down the spatula. Then leave it alone.

Of course do a couple practice rounds on a dowel or on the butt of the rod blank to get a feel for the finish. If you have an extra stripping guide use that so you can see how it flows in the guide foot tunnels.

Trondak U 40 is a pretty thin high build rod finish, not at all like flexcoat, TM or gudebrod.. It is a bit in the middle, U40 has a longer potlife as well if you start straight after mixing it goes on like FC lite. ProKote is on the other spectrum, that has very long potlife and you can take your pick how thin or thick you want it just by waiting 5 or 10 minutes. Longer potlife also means longer turning time, you can ofcourse thin it, i do it when i want invisible wraps with white Pearsall's, but then again it takes even longer to dry..

Thanks for the advice guys. Does thinning the High Build with Acetone or Meths have any adverse effects ? Which is best Acetone or Meths as I have both?
