Default What epoxy ? - I knew it would be like this......

Hi yet again

I thought I would start on my journey by getting some rings and practice tying them on and finishing. I was looking at GuidesnBlanks.com and found a whole bewildering array of different types of epoxy for finishing the rings !

Can someone please just recommend the standard epoxy generally used by most people to get me started?

It is epoxy that is used to finish the rings and not a varnish ?

The Guides 'n Blanks page lists both epoxy adhesives and epoxy finishes. You don't want to use adhesive.

I haven't used epoxy finishes a lot but I've found the Threadmaster very good. Flexcoat Lite is also very popular. I would start with one of these.

Anglers Workshop - Flex Coat High Build Rod Wrapping Finish

Another standard here is a product called "U-40." They make both a thread colour preserver (excellent) and a final top coat. Bye the bye, Angler's Workshop has been one of the US's staples (rod building, etc., supplies) for at least 45 years that I know of.

of what they list, LS Supreme is very good. It was my preferred finish for quite a while.

I've heard a lot of good about threadmaster, but I haven't tried it so I can't recommend it.

I've never liked flexcoat.

Thanks,
Rick

don't know, but don't get high build. It is meant for very thick application and is very high viscosity. It is harder to work with if you don't have a lot of experience with epoxy.

The LS Supreme is a thinner build and flows much better. you'll be far better off.

You want the lite flexcoat, the other stuff it to thick, you can use it but you will need to thin it right down with meths.

Thanks CBF, I'll look at that.

What do you use the araldite for bbamboo ?

BTW - forgot to ask. Are there any other suppliers like guidesnblanks in the UK ? I'd rather deal with a UK supplier.
