Default Rod length reduction,what happens?

I need some advice. I have recently dug out a 7ft. aftm 4/5 Fibalite that I built some years ago which I don't use anymore but remember having a great action for fishing in small streams. It has since been replaced by a carbon fibre equivalent. I now have access to a very small stream and want a 6'3 to 6'6 rod. This may be a dumb question but can I cut off 6-9 ins from the Fibalite's butt and rebuild this without compromising the rod's action too much.I don't mind if it makes it a bit slower or reduces the line weight to 3/4, in fact this would be ideal.I just don't want to mess the rod up completely as I remember it with fondness and it would be nice to get it back into action. What do those with more experience/knowledge than me (probably everyone) think. I would apppreciate any advice.

Hello firbreglass is a very withgiving material and if your thinking of this, how long is the cork handle, if not too long you could cut off and put new one on that would give you a 6ft plus rod?. i dont think would alter the aftm but sounds like a d/t 4 would do. but also why not look out for a 6ft oldy on ebay in d/t 3 anyway good luck

Thanks for the replies. I think I'll just go for it. At least the rod will get the occasional outing and it will save buying yet another rod,although........
Flyfish61:I'm too impatient to wait around for an oldy but it's a good idea.
