Default SOS help please!

I have jusy whipped new guides onto my rod.I used 2 pack Arldite to coat the whippings but its very thick and a grey mucus colour which is very hard to apply evenly. How do i make it thinner, and is it the correct type to use. Grateful for any help on this.

Jemo

No expert.but it should turn clear.and put it on sparingly.Try using a needle to apply it.You will probably need to keep turning it to stop it sagging.

You shouldn't have used araldite for your whippings. There are various brands of low build and high build 2 part epoxy resins specifically designed for rod whippings. Check out the rod building section on this site and also you tube for video of rod building.

Hi jemo if you want to use araldite if you heat it it will thin down it should go clear when I use it, I mix it on a thin card and hold a lighter under it just move the heat about directly below it and yes you can use araldite if you choose to.

Its completly the wrong stuff.
To thick and will go yellow in very little time.
You will need to remove it by cutting into the thread and pulling it off.
Great care is needed take your time or hand the rod over to pro. gary

Jemo, you'll have a job getting the araldite back off the rod again. If your going to use a scalpal or sharp blade be careful not to cut into the blank. Think you were over eager to finish your rod and neglected your homework.

"Building your first fly rod" on you tube is a good SBS for you.

One piece of good advice I would give you is.....make sure you get the room you're applying the proper whipping 2 part epoxy in, piping hot and keep it that way. Its tempting to open a window due to fumes from the epoxy. When temperature drops the epoxy takes forever to cure.

Varnish is much more forgiving than epoxy and much more durable than nail varnish, but slower...
