Default Could I make a fly rod?

I am thinking about getting a rod building kit for christmas from my mum and dad but wonder what I need and wether it'll take a lot of time,as I don't have much of that by the time I get all my coursework done.. More worried that once you start you have to keep going I tend to start things and then finish them 4 weeks later. Also I can't work put in the garage as my dad has it filled with his electric kit. Would it be ok to do at my table where I tie my flies if I clean it up a bit

Little bit of advise.
We all started somewhere and the best place to start is at the beginning.
However I would not recommend you start with a kit
Best to start with an old rod take the guides of and whip them back on and see how it goes first.
I know some guys can make a good rod on the first attempt and that’s fine.
But its not the way I would advise you to go, LOOK for an old rod on Ebay that needs some work.
And if you get stuck post your problems on the forum.

A little bit
The materials we use can be different bamboo rod makers mostly us very fine silk thread and varnish. The guys who build on carbon use mostly epoxy and whipping thread.
But like with every thing there is many ways to get the job done, and lots of cross overs.
You can always practice on a lenght of broken rod section or even a lenght of garden cane take it one step at a time.
None of it is rocket science it just takes time and practice.
Hope you get thier and have fun on the way.
