Default Ring quantity and spacing

Sorry if this is covered elsewhere, but tried a search with no luck.

How do you decide on how many rings to use and their spacing?

(I've been looking at Chapman blanks).

In general (always exceptions to any rule) fit 1 more guide than the length of the rod in feet. So a 9' rod has 10 guides....not including the tip ring.

If you are looking at something like a Chapman blank, they will most likely also give you a spacing guide with the blank.

Cheers
