Hi Tonkay. I did give him the option to put it back but he was sooo excited about catching his first fish he wanted to take it home for his mother. There is no harm in taking a fish or 2 now and again if its a stocked fish which it was otherwise i would have put it back and if he ever catches any wbt whilst out with me they will be getting put back as i hate seeing them being knocked on the head. He is only 4 years old and has a lot of learning to do so plenty of time

What rubbish, my father used to make me kill everything as he liked to eat them and he used to justify this by telling me everyone used to do it in the 'olden days'. I then realised that I fish the river a lot and decided 'myself' that I would be better off returning them so I can catch them again. You should not 'assume' he will now kill everything as he grows up, everything is a learning curve and I am sure as he grows up he will start to realise that he needs to take care of the river and its inhabitants.

Point taken but still think it's better to educate youngsters sooner rather than later, sometimes it's too late. I thought it was a bit of a contradiction on Dad's part as he claims to now be a catch and release angler....

This thread is also renowned, when a good sized fish is caught, the very next post is along the lines of "did it go back or hopefully returned" so to now start congratulating a fish being lumped on the head and it's picture posted on the thread, bit rich don't you think?

Further more, shall we invite all the other youngsters who are catching salmon on spinners and some decent trout to post their trophies on a flyfishing forum? Let's open the floodgates!

If you bailiff-ed the taff like I do then you would know just what we are up against and clonking one or two stocked fish will only help preserve the habitat for the wbt. as the stockies are just greedy eating machines.

It happens all through the closed season and it ain't just youngsters who are catching. and most of them spinning the taff I come across dont have EA License and offer to lump you in the face.

3 posts and you got to get your two pence worth in we are working hard to change the mindset of those who want to listen but the poachers who are the real problem just tell you to fu*^ off mate.

I think all stocked fish should be taken out of the Taff and we should do more to help the native fish in the rivers where they belong.

cheers for the support on this one guys. But like you said Mr Edd its better for the WBT if we take/stop stocking the river and there is a massive problem with pourchers too as i am a club bailiff too and have thrown plenty of people off the river in my time as well as 3 just yesterday in quakersyard which didn't have a club or EA license's. Tonkay instead of moaning on here about my little boy taking his first fish home for his mum why dont you do something constructive and get out there stopping pourcher and people setting out night lines.

Night lines, that's another one that will be on the increase over the next few months. also nets across holding pools.

And not to single out any ethnic guests in our country but some take everything from the size of your arm to the size of your little finger for the table
and this is only really a difference in cultural behaviour.

Ai i know. Hopefully if more people help out we would catch a lot more of the buggers. I think myself i have been fortunate some times as i have caught more people pourching whilst actually out fishing myself. But the team which we have in mtaa patrol all water's which we have got river and pond/resoviours aswell as taking litter, trollies, bikes etc out of all our water.

here are a few pictures which we taken out of a few pools after the winter period and the season started. ( the pools which we taken all these out of were clear at the end of last season so people had been putting them in there over winter )

how ever we have taken a lot more than this out since the start of the season.

Onto poaching are we. I determine a poacher as a person fishing without a license and only recently on another Taff thread (4 months ago during Grayling season) the following quote was aimed at welshflyfisher.

"I have been checking the sales books for the day tickets and season tickets but i have not seen your name on one

Dan please refrain from fishing the Ospreys waters if you do not hold a ticket.
