Default Monnow Social VI "This Time Its Personal"

Hi All
The River Monnow Social is back for a sixth year running in 2012. Regular visitors to the Monnow thread and attendees of last previous bashes will recall that we drank beer, more beer, whisky and wine in beautiful surroundings, ate steak and even caught some fish. The experience is to be repeated this year between Fri 4th and Sun 6th May.

Yes it is Bank Holiday Weekend! SO depending on your take, you can either stay on for an additional day's fishing or have the Monday to recover from the emotion of the weekend.

There is a maximum of 22 places available (at this stage).

Your hosts for the Weekend will be the usual suspects, and judging from the pms I have received already, so will the majority of the attendees

The cost for this year's event will be £130. Your money will cover Camping costs, supper on friday & saturday nights and breakfast on saturday & sunday mornings; it will include your fishing for the weekend also. One day on the main stem and one on a wilder upper river beat. As with last year, any surplus will go straight to the Monnow Rivers Association.

As with last year, we will be seeking to repeat the saturday night drunken auction. So if you have anything to contribute - no matter how obscure - then bring it along.

The idea is to secure a wide range of beats and keep them as lightly fished as possible so that nobody gets "sloppy seconds". For those of you who know the river system, well you know what to expect

The other thing to note is that the Social offers the opportunity to fish beats not normally available to day fishers. Many of them are amongst the most picturesque and exclusive beats on the river.

We have an initial list of interested people from last year's event but we may have a few extra rods available for this years event. Things being what they are, it is likely that some original names may not be able to attend or have to drop out. So if you are interested, please drop me a PM and we'll keep you posted on developments. Once we have a list of attendees, we will be asking for a deposit and then there will be a cut-off date after which we will open up the event to anyone on a waiting list.

bfn

You lot asked us to give you more notice and we listened. Now we have to deal with the ever increasing excitement.

The real ethos and reason for the Monnow Socal is to introduce people to the Monnow river system and let total newcomers to river fly fishing and, some times newbies to flyfishing have a go and fish with and learn from some of us who like to think that we know what we are doing and with those that do. This year it looks like we will have atleast two and maybe 4 APGAI professionals en camp.

Everybody will (river conditions allowing) get to fish a whole day on a main river beat and a upper river/trib. TM, QS and myself will carefully mix and match anglers so that they can fish with like minded chaps and chapettes. We have all made life long friends and enjoyed some of the most memorable days and nights of our lives. And for me the best moments have been helping someone to get started on the rivers.

So, even if you are total newby to fishing or river fishing or an expert, and you would be wise not to admit it, then we ensure that you are teamed up with some like minded people and fish some great water.

Ok boys. I am very much in two minds about camping. Indeed I hate it.
Please try and give me reasons why I should camp with you lot.

It's too dark to find your way out of the campsite, without injury - just ask Cothi.

We have a marquee with benches and tables as a mess and meeting tent.

It is half board, all cooking done for you.

By the time you hit your sleeping bag you, you won't care - unless your tent is near Morgan's

The campsite has adequate washing and shower facilities.

you'll miss a good part of the atmosphere.

You're too young - you have to be at least 70 to even consider gibbing. Cothi is only allowed because he is over 80.

A little bit of suffering is good for you.
