I have been known to for grayling, in winter and then single upstream nymph, without an indicator.

It was a great joy to meet and be interviewed by Peter Lapsley.

I'll second that. He was a brilliant raconteur and such a knowledgeable angler. I think CF and I felt we had enough material for a whole series on him by the end of our weekend. Not sure all of it suitable for FF&FT though.

With regards to people's comments about the work, and credit where it is due... well I have to say that it is CF who is the driving force in the Monnow engine room, ably supported by some great guys who are generous to a fault. There are also those - you know who you are - who are the heart and soul of the project work on the river.

We hope that the article will encourage others to visit, support and join the journey. Big thanks also to the much missed Sewinman for "making it happen".
Best
Dave

Pleased to see the Monnow article and some familiar faces in the latest issue of FF&FT I received this week. Great work guys.....and especially to those behind the scenes too. Look forward to fishing the system in the new season....just hope thereś more water around this year.

Please do give me a shout as soon as you schedule any work parties on the rivers again.

Simon

The river is looking in perfect nick. The incredibly mild weather is having an effect on the fly life. LDOs are coming off and I even saw one being taken off the surface by a trout on Monday.

Opening Day This Saturday

The BBC's and other weather guestimates are now coming together to agree on a mild overcast day with some light rain - seemingly ideal conditions for one of the Country's earliest starts to the trout season. because of the incredibly mild winter, fly activity has been high and trout have been seen rising to LDOs for several weeks, on the Dore and upper Monnow tribs. River conditions are very good and should be so for Opening day. If you are going to fish, and why wouldn't you then I would suggest one of the passport beats on any of the Monnow tribs would do but, if pressed, the Dore might just be the place to head for.

Enjoy and let us know how you get on. I will miss opening day on the Monnow for the first time in many years.

I'm heading back from Newport next Monday/ Tuesday and intend to fish somewhere around Pandy on the Monnow, Honddu or whatever you folks can advise. Possibly on both days. Assuming the river levels are OK am I better using the voucher system or does anyone have a better idea?
Thanks in advance
Frank
